I don’t know how many times (sometimes several times a day) that I keep telling myself, that I am just having a bad dream and I am going to wake up and things will be back to what they were. Each time it happens, I get a big knot in my throat and tightness in my chest. Then the realness sets in and I know it is just wishful thinking.
Yesterday was another Grand Central Station day here.
I got up and whipped up a banana bread because we knew we were going to have some company. So wanted to have something to offer them. One of my Dad’s first cousins from Washington (Bob and Janet Casne) stopped in for a visit. Then a old friend (Vince Quinlan) also stopped in for a visit as well. That made both my Mom and Dad’s day to have company.
Bob and Janet had traveled over to go to the MSU graduation. Bob participated in the graduation as it was his 60th graduation anniversary. Sounded like they had a good time and making the trip was worth it.
Mom and Dad had not seen Vince for several years so they were happy to see him.
Then I had to run to town to run a couple of errands and then back home.
Once again the Elk Park Weather has foiled our attempt to finish burning the old grass around the place. We had it all lined up and we’re going to do it at 11:00 am today. Well the spotty rain that was forecasted showed up at about 8:30 and it has dampened things just enough to make it where the grass will not burn, so we have put that on hold again. Maybe later this week we can try it again. We will see how much rain we get today. Other than the darn rain the conditions would have been perfect.
The last two nights the elk have come right down to the house. We have had two that have been right outside my room in the basement. The grass is getting green in that area so a couple of brave ones have been jumping the fence to come in and dine on the good stuff.
Yesterday was like Yellowstone park here. We had the elk and a couple of coyotes that were hunting gophers and a bald eagle that was flying around also looking for gophers. I am sure the coyotes will be sticking around the elk as they are/will be calving soon and they will probably be feasting on the afterbirth.
Well I better get moving and find something else to do today.
