Today I took the folks over to Helena to view the Vigilante parade. This was the 100th year for the parade. This is a highschool parade. Kids from both high schools put together floats based on historical events/locations in Lewis and Clark county. This year they had 100+ floats.
The parade was at noon, so we had to get up early and get on the road so we could get a spot the folks could watch from the car. Cindy parked her car in a good spot and then we swapped spots when we got there and Cindy was able to get a spot just a few spots away, so that worked out good.
For this parade, kids just get together in groups and put together these floats. It is not clubs or groups. It was interesting to see the variety of floats and the efforts that some groups put into theirs. Some had full semi-trucks and trailers and some were just small pickups and trailers. They were quite a few duplicate floats (e..g. Unabomber, Eddy’s Bakery, hospitals, old bars, drive in movie theater).
Because of where we were parked we did not get to see all of the floats, but I thought the best one was a float on the Devils Bridgade from World War II. All,the kids were in WW II military uniforms and they had a semi trailer with a tall structute with the bridgages patch on it. One kid was on top waving a American flag. The Devil’s Bridgade was a joint US and Canadian group and the first special operations unit. The Bridgade trained at Fort Harrison outside of Helena.
Of course Cindy had to work the event. She was directing other teachers to be at certain intersections and directing traffic. Heath, Case and Chad watched it with us. Chad got off of work early.
As a whole the kids were well behaved, there was some friendly banter but no fights, a couple kids vaping but for the most part well behaved. The kids of course had lots of energy. Which was good, because it was not the nicest day (overcast and about 42 degrees) and a lot of the kids were in shorts with no coats.
After the parade we went to the Galbavy’s and had a late lunch. Originally we were going to,have Costco Pizza. Cindy needed to run get a couple of things there, but it was going to take too long to get a Pizza, so we she picked up some chicken salad and Chiobata buns and we had chicken salad sandwiches.
We then headed home and the Galbavy’s were getting ready to head to Canyon Ferry to camp and fish. Tomorrow is supposed to be nicer with temps in 60’s.
All in all a good day.
