Toughest Of Them All

Writer's picture: sologubj9sologubj9

It has been a few days since I have sat down to write anything. I will be honest, it is just because I have not felt like writing whenever I have had the few moments to do so.

Please keep the prayers coming for my sister-in-law Jeanne. Things are finally beginning to head in the right direction and she is hopefully going to get released from the hospital today. She appears to have had a stroke. As a result of that she is having issues swallowing. So she has had to have the insertion of a feeding tube so she can get nourishment to build her strength up and work on getting her swallowing back to full strength.

Jeanne has made all of us marvel at how tough she is. Jennifer’s brothers while growing up had a reputation around Butte for being pretty tough guys. However I think the toughest of the bunch is Little ol Jeanne. Jeanne unfortunately has had health issues to deal with pretty much her whole life. She has always met those struggles head on and forged ahead. Jeanne never complains or laments publicly about her health issues. She is always concerned about everyone else and she just tackles her own health issues and moves on. She is pretty damn amazing.

According to my Brother in Law Rob she is anxious to get home so she can get some decent rest. As anyone who has spent any time in a hospital knows you never get decent rest in a hospital because some one is either poking or prodding you and/or due to all the noise and activity that goes on in hospitals.

Thank you for the prayers offered up to this point but, please continue to keep Jeanne in your prayers and ask for a full recovery from this latest health set back.

Since my last post I have had a few tough days, but I have been forging ahead and continue to try and stay busy. Yesterday, I played in another corn hole tournament. This one was a little larger than the previous tournament I played in.

The tournament was hosted by the Eureka Casino here in town and was a fundraiser for the Virgin Valley Veterans Honor Guard and the Mesquite Police Honor guard. There were 24 teams in the tournament.

The only reason I played in this tournament is that I played for our Rotary Club. The Eureka is a major sponsor for many of our club activities and they asked us if we would enter a team. So we entered a team. Otherwise I would not have entered this tournament because I am not good enough to compete in a tournament especially of this size. No one else in the club could participate because of their schedules. So I recruited my other teammate. My old bocce tournament partner Gary joined me.

The first round of the tournament consisted of six games. Then the top 8 teams moved on to the next round. Well we did not make it to the second round. We won 3 games and lost 3 games and ended up in 13th place. The team that won was pretty darn good. In the nine games they played they only had 16 points scored against them. They beat several teams 21-0.

Oh well Gary and I had fun and it was for a good cause.

I have a quieter week scheduled this week, but in some ways that will be nice, I hope.
