The Bridge.

In just a few days it will be 10 months since Jennifer departed and I am still having to remind myself she is indeed gone. Yesterday I went with Case to watch him fish and just to make sure he did not fall in the creek. While I was sitting there watching him fish I was really struggling coming to grips with her being gone.

Case was not having any luck fishing in the spot he was slaying them on Saturday (The creek had come up quite a bit from the rain storm Saturday evening). So I said let’s go up to the other bridge in the field. So Case got in his little side-by-side and I was on one of Dads four wheelers and we drove up to the bridge.

Case did not realize that I had a different reason for wanting to go up to this bridge and that was fine. My reason for wanting to go up there was to just see the bridge.

Two years ago Jennifer and I had worked on repairing this bridge. The bridge is quite old and my Dad had last worked on it probably 20+ years ago. Anyway its decking was in desperate need of repair, it was basically unusable. Jennifer and I removed the old decking and we worked our butts off getting old spikes pulled and or cut off the bridge stringers with a grinder and then put putting on new deck boards. We then put both a plastic and felt liner over the decking and then spreading dirt over the top.

While I would not say she exactly enjoyed doing this work, she did have a feeling of accomplishment once we got done with it. Like I have said before it took her a few years to get involved with doing work around the ranch but once she did she liked the sense of accomplishment when things were done.

Anyway, when Case and I got there, the bridge was still standing and it was in decent shape. It could use a little more dirt across the top, but someone else will have to take that on, it’s not on the priority list for this year. Anyway, visiting and seeing the bridge in some strange way brought me a little bit of closure.

Now a couple days after we finished the bridge work, a Grizzly Bear’s tracks were found not far from the bridge. She enjoyed teasing my Dad that he was using us as bait on that little project. The tracks were confirmed to be Grizzly bear by a U.S. Forest Service bear biologist but that is a story for another day.

We sure did luck out on the weather for my Aunt Betty’s party. Yesterday was a overcast, cool and windy day. Cindy, Chad and I got some work done around the place in preparation for the auctioneers to come over and start getting ready for the auction. It is Cindy and the boys last week of school and they will be coming over next weekend and start staying here. They brought their trailer over and got it set up this weekend.

Chad and I got the cover off my travel trailer. Now I can start working on getting it cleaned up and ready to sell. It has been a good trailer and Jennifer and I made some really good memories in it but I want to go ahead and sell it so someone else can make their own memories in it.

In the afternoon Cindy, Chad, Case and I went to town for a high school graduation party. Heath stayed home with Mom and Dad.

It rained again last night and is raining some more this morning. We got a busy week ahead of us. So I better get moving and doing some productive things.
