The 2024 Tumbleweed Stampede

I played golf this morning and it was crazy windy. I am talking steady 20 mph winds for the whole round with times the gusts

were probably in the 40 mph range. We had one gust on hole 15 that was probably close to Hurricane strength. Fortunately it was a short gust, but it was difficult to walk/stand during that gust.

The Tumbleweeds blowing around the course was unreal. It was like watching a herd of Buffalo stampeding across the plains. Some of these were as big as a Buffalo. Below is a short video I was able to capture and sadly this does not really capture the volume of tumbleweeds that were blowing around. Just minutes after I shot the video a huge bunch of tumbleweeds blew thru but I could not get my phone out of the cart in time to capture it. It was unreal.

This morning I was listening to the news about the fires in North Texas and they were talking about how some folks homes were burned down because of the flaming tumbleweeds that were blowing around and spreading the fire. After what I observed today, I can totally understand that happening. My prayers are with the folks who have lost everything in these fires.

Needless to say it was tough sledding when you were hitting into the wind. When you were with it you had to be very careful selecting your club so that you did not fly the green. I somehow miraculously pulled off a Birdie on the first hole, so that is always a bad omen. I did scratch out a few pars, but the double and triple bogey's were frequently going on the card. My partner was keeping the card and I forgot to ask him what I shot. It is best that I forget that round anyway.

Well, I need to scare up some viddles and start getting the house ready for company.

Thanks for the video. Pretty cool. Glad you didn’t lose anything to the wind. We are supposed to have some strong winds and snow headed our way tonight and tomorrow. Hopefully the power stays on. We need it for Kevin’s non-invasive ventilator feeding pump. We do have a couple of backup batteries just in case.
