Special Relationship

There was a article posted on 406 MT Sports about the 1972 State Class A Football State Championship game between Wolf Point and Butte Central. A man from Wolf Point is writing a book about that game. Jennifer’s brother Dave was a member of that Butte Central team. He is in the main photo of the article and is mentioned several times in the article. FYI-Butte Central won.

21 years ago on April 22, we lost Dave. Dave was very special to Jennifer, over the years he taught her many things (how to ride a bike, how to ice skate, etc.). She took his death which was much too early very hard.

Dave and his family were also special to both Jennifer and I. Dave and Pat would let Jennifer stay with them in Helena when she came over to visit me at Carroll College (I have mentioned that before). I even baby sat Kate a couple of times. Hannah was born just before we left Montana for Louisiana. We had a couple of fun trips and visits with them in Texas and a very memorable Christmas with them in Houston.

That year the girls got a basketball hoop for Christmas, well Dave and I went out to their garage late that night to assemble the hoop. We had consumed a few beers prior to starting and a few more while doing the assembly. Anyway, we get it done (at least in our minds) and we called Pat and Jennifer out to inspect our handy work. Pat takes one look at it and says “Won’t they trip over that base”? We had mounted it backwards! Well Dave and I were a bit chagrined and we fixed it but we heard about that every year afterwards.

We were at Dave and Pats house when Princess Diana was killed. I don’t know why I remember that but I do.

For our wedding Dave (who was a good wood worker) made us a beautiful oak headboard for our bed. A piece of furniture that we always cherished. Over our lives we moved 8 times. That piece of furniture was the only piece that the movers were given very specific instructions on. They were told if that piece was damaged they better have their affairs in order, because they would suffer a death they would not wish on their worst enemy. It never got damaged in any of the moves.

This morning Pat texted me a photo of a beautiful basket with pink roses that she has made for Jennifer’s grave. My sister Cindy is making me a Sheppards hook to hang baskets off for Memorial Day. It will have a Celtic cross on it. Both of these will be very special to me. I will post a photo when I have them both together.

Well another busy day ahead of me, so I better get a move on.

I have to take Dad to town for a Dr Appointment. Also Jim and Elaine are going to be in Mesquite today to have lunch with our friends Sheri and Tony. They are going to swing by my house and do a check for me since they are in town.

Also we have a nurse from Jefferson county coming by to visit with Mom and Dad about healthcare in the county and to learn about Elk Park. So have to get him home for that.

So enough for today.
