Pretzel Biscuits

Last night just as we were getting ready to call it a night, I saw the Wendy's commercial for their pretzel bun on their Baconator sandwich. This really made me laugh. I have mentioned numerous times that I did not marry Jennifer for her culinary skills. They say a way to a man's heart is through his stomach. Well if that was truly the case our relationship would have never made it. Now Jennifer would be the first to tell you, as she told me many times that I was and still am no where close to suffering from malnourishment, so her cooking couldn't be all that bad.

Anyway, back to the pretzel bun. While we living in San Antonio Jennifer had picked up a mix for pretzel rolls. I think she probably got it at one of the three TJ Max stores that she frequented while we were there. So one weekend night she decides to whip up these rolls and we were going to have hamburgers on the freshly made pretzel rolls. So maybe she was on to something and was more of a culinary trendsetter.

Well I don't know if she did not exactly follow the directions on the mix or if the mix was just out dated (Since it came from TJ Max, that is a possibility), but the end result was nothing like a pretzel roll. It was more like a pretzel biscuit or scone. Lets just say they were not pretty and did not resemble a pretzel in any way and they sure as hell were not tasty. Now I tried to be a good husband and did actually eat one of the damn things (even when she wouldn't). She took one bite and that was enough for her.

She was pretty embarrassed with how these "rolls" turned out and was pretty apolgetic about it. For once in my life I took pity on her that night and did not razz her about it. However it did become a standing joke with us and we did have many a good laugh about it over the years. So if the word pretzel came into any of our discussions I would say something like "Yeah it might be OK, but it's no pretzel biscuit and we both would chuckle about it."

Anyway seeing that commercial just made me chuckle and think of her Pretzel biscuits.

The Elk Park Volunteer Fire Department was a big hit. Everyone had a good time, my folks got to see some people they have not seen in quite a while. There was a ton of kids in all ages from newborns to teenagers.

Cindy and Chad let the boys go on the hayride by themselves, because the hay wagon was so full and they are old enough to fend for themselves now. They seemed to enjoy themselves. When they got back there was hot chocolate, popcorn, hot dogs, chili, cookies, and candy waiting for them.

Then Santa Claus made his appearance and the kids each got a gift and they had a opportunity to sit on his lap and tell them what they wanted for Christmas. According to my sister Cindy (they did this in another part of the firehall) they had a range of reactions to Santa from some of the younger kids. A couple wanted no part of him at all. A couple were OK getting a gift from him, but did not want to talk with him. Most were happy to get a "warm up" gift and were more than ready to let him know what they wanted for the big day. Of course there were the teenagers that played along to keep from spoiling the fun for younger siblings and to stay in the good graces of their parents/grandparents.

Case and Heath made good hauls from Santa. They each got three pairs of Grizzly socks and Heath got some alcohol markers for his art projects and Case got a remote controlled Lamborghini car.

Dad and I finished the night watching the NFR rodeo and that's where I saw the Pretzel commercial, so maybe that was my "warmup" gift from Santa. You know what? I am more than happy with it because it is a funny memory that I will always cherish and I went to bed happy.

Well enough therapy for today.
