Petty And The Heartshakers and Good Friends

Last night I attended a concert at the Casa Blanca Casino by Petty and the Heartshackers with Margot/Allen and Dorothy/Andy. They are a Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers tribute band. There were a lot of other Sun City folks also in attendnace. This was a very good concert. The guy who was the lead singer (Tom Petty) was a amazing look a like (at least from where we were seated) and he did a very good impression of him singing wise. It was a very good concert and they put on a great 1 1/2 hour show with no breaks. Jennifer and I both liked Tom Petty and she would have really enjoyed the show.

We had went to a local Thia restaurant before the show and had a nice meal.

Today I had a very nice visit and lunch with old friends Dan and Karla Brennan. We met Dan and Karla when we moved to Pittsburgh. Karla worked with us at Marathon. Dan and Karla took us under their wing and welcomed us to Pittsburgh. As most of you know I am a Notre Dame football fan. The University of Pittsburgh played Notre Dame in Pittsburgh the first year we were there. Well Karla convinced us to join them in buying season tickets to the University of Pittsburgh games. It was actually cheaper to do that than to buy just two tickets for the Pitt vs Notre Dame game. We became season ticket holders for the two years we were there had fun tailgating with them and several of their friends. The first year we tailgated in the Andy Warhol museum parking garage (which was down the street from Heinz stadium). The next year Dan had upgraded their tickets which came with a parking spot in one of the parking lots of Heinz field. So we tailgated there. We sure had some good times and good food at those games. Dan throws a hell of tail gate.

This was the start of Jennifer taking a interest in College Football. She really enjoyed when Pitt played the Naval Academy because the cadets would show up in their dress whites. The only time we did not root for Pitt was when they played Notre Dame. We continued to follow Pitt football ever since. It was fun to get to see Heinz stadium and all of the Steeler history and the Lombardi trophy's. Pittsburgh is a sports loving town. I did get to attend two Steeler games while we were there.

We really enjoyed our time living there, except for the taxes. Due to the commonwealth government set up in Pennsylvania they tax every which way but Sunday.

Pittsburgh reminded us a lot of Butte. Lots of different ethnic groups and a blue collar town. We loved going down to the strip district and going through all of the different ethnic stores. Plus we got to see a lot of interesting things, while living there. There is so much history around there. We made trips to Canada, New York, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia. We went to Niagara Falls and we saw a lot of Amish country and even went to Intercourse, PA (we always chuckled about that).

We toured several of the large Civil War battlefields. We did a lot during the two years we were there. I certainly hope to return to visit the area and Dan and Karla as well as some of other friends that are still in the area in the future.

This evening Margot/Allen and Dorothy/Allen came down to house for some pie. Margot also looked through some of Jennifer's shoes to see if she had any that would go with a dress Margot is wearing to a upcoming family wedding in Louisiana. She found one pair that may work, but she also found several other pairs of shoes that she liked and took home. Like purses, Jennifer had a lot of shoes (even though we got rid of a bunch before moving). Some she never got the chance to actually wear or were only worn a couple of times. While it is a little emotional, I am very glad to see them go to a good home and I think Jennifer would be very happy that Margot took the ones she did.

All in all a good couple of days.
