Paradise By The Dashboard Lights

Well, I got through the DMV nightmare yesterday. I got there early and was first in line, however a little old lady showed up and I let her get in line in front of me. But I got through it.

It amazes me how the DMV is always one of the most poorly run agencies in every state, that I have lived in. This is not a bash on the individuals that work at the DMV. But it is amazing how inefficient and disorganized this particular agency can be. That has held true in every state that I have lived in (for those that are counting that is 6 states and a couple of those were multiple times).

The local DMV office opens at 8:00 am. The agency only has 4 employees. Well, when they open the doors exactly at 8:00 am there is only one employee present. Now the people are stacking up. Hell, there was already 15 people in line waiting when the door opened at 8:00. And people just kept coming and the backlog of people just keeps getting larger. At 8:30 the other 3 employees slowly start trickling in. Now you could tell these folks really don't love their jobs, you could just see it in their faces and demeanor. I will be honest who could blame them, they are walking into the bears den every morning with a room full of people who the vast majority don't have all the things they need, or proper forms completed, and a good percentage are already pissed off about something, etc. Which again is a sign of a poorly run organization. They take their sweet ass time getting their desks set up and logged into their computers. Again, I get it they get paid the same regardless of if they are helping people or note the people start stacking up like cordwood.

Got finished with DMV and went to UPS Store to ship the box of T-Shirts to Megan for the quillo. Then went to Virgin River Casino to go bowling with the Sun City Group. I actually bowled decently this week.

Then went to Pickleball and ran the 2:00 pm Round Robin. After that I stopped at my neighbor Jill and Scotts to drop off a thank you note for the dinner, they had me over for a couple of weeks ago. I had been carrying it around in my golf card waiting to run into them. Of course, they were at Pickleball, and I did not have my golf cart because I came straight from the Casino in my car. Anyway, had a quick beer and nice visit with them.

I came home and my new printer was on the porch, so I spent some time last night getting that set up. Fortunately, that went pretty smooth. I am happy with my purchase so far.

Then got my garbage all collected emptied and in the can for pickup tomorrow.

This morning, I woke up early and decided to go the grocery store. Definitely the best time to grocery stop in Mesquite. As I was coming home Meatloaf's "Paradise By The Dashboard Lights" came on the radio, and it triggered the tears all the way home. Jennifer loved Meatloaf's "Bat Out Of Hell" Album. She wore out a couple of cassette tapes of it and she had it on CD. That start of that song was also her ringtone on her phone. I will probably break down in tears for a good long while, every time I hear that song.

I came home got the groceries unloaded and headed to Bocce. We had a Marathon game of Bocce on my court today. We won 1 game and lost 2, but they were all close games, and we were the last court playing.

After Bocce I went down to the Casablanca Casino to see about getting a ticket to a Tom Petty Tribute band show that is going to be on March 2. Andy and Dorothy are going and told me about it. Unfortunately, the Showroom box office is only open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday so I will have to swing by after Rotary.

I swiped my players card at the Casino and won a free hot dog, so went and had that and then headed over the Virgin River Casino to meet up with Margot, Allen, Dorothy, Andy, Julie and Randy to bowl at 12:30 pm. Well I was plenty early so I went and played my $5 free play on a slot machine and did not win a damn thing. So moved to another slot and put $20 in and I hit a couple of small wins so was up like $2.50 and then I hit a 5 free spin and won like 30 bucks. I then hit a minor jackpot ($50) and I almost cashed out then I hit a 10 free spin and I got another minor jackpot ($50) and a few other wins and had it up to $180 bucks. I played it down to $170 bucks and cashed out. I still had about 30 minutes to kill so I went and bought me another $0.75 hot dog. I figured I could afford it.

Everyone showed up and we bowled two games. Andy and I stayed and bowled a third game, the rest went off to gamble for a bit. My bowling sucked royal today. After we finished, I headed home. I have a joint board Rotary meeting tonight so wanted to get ready for that.

Well I better call it a day and get ready for Rotary.
