Nice Thanksgiving

Writer's picture: sologubj9sologubj9

I hope anyone reading this had a nice Thanksgiving. I had a nice one. I really missed Jennifer during it and she would have very much enjoyed the weekend.

I had a great visit with Jim and Elaine. It was nice to see them, I had not seen them since September. We shared some Jennifer stories and we had a very tasty Thanksgiving dinner at Caron’s parent’s house.

Ryan, Caron and the kids were on a trip to Washington DC and New York City, so they missed out on the feast. They attended the Macy’s Thanksgiving day parade and then had dinner with some of Caron’s family that live out in that neck of the woods.

We watched the NFL football games on Thursday. They were Ok games so that was good. However is anyone else sick of hearing about Turkducken? I mean it got, covered and described during every damn game.

On Friday I helped Jim and Elaine get some of their Christmas decorations out and put up. After that Jim and I went and saw a movie.

We had our hearts set on seeing “Wicked”, but since we could not paint ourselves green nor would we be allowed to sing during the movie we passed on that and went to Gladiator II. It is a OK movie, but not as good as the original. Like I mentioned the other day sequel’s rarely are as good as the original movie and this one held true to that stereotype.

The graphics and special effects are very good. You could almost feel the blood and gore splatter on you as all the Gladiator stuff was occurring.

I will be honest, as I was watching it, I could not help but see the irony in the movie and what is going on in our world today. In the movie, the Roman Empire is collapsing, because of the corruption, craziness and lack of ethics and morals of the emperor’s (two brothers in, the movie). I feel like our country is collapsing because of the corruption and lack of ethics and morals of its soon to be leader and new emperor (if he has his way). Anyway there is a lot of other irony in the movie that I won’t go into so I don’t ruin it for those that have not seen it but want to. Let’s just say that the irony kind of soured the movie for me.

When we got back to the house we watched some college football. The Georgia vs Georgia Tech game was crazy with 8 overtime’s before Georgia claimed the victory. Whoever bet the under on that game sorely lost. Georgia was lucky to win the game. They were like a 19 point favorite so much for those odds being close.

I traveled back to Mesquite early yesterday morning so I got back in time for a mixed doubles Pickleball Round Robin event. I normally don’t play in it, but a lady was needing a partner because her regular partner was out of town for the holiday.

After that I came home and then went to the grocery store to get things for our Bocce club potluck lunch that we are having today. What everyone is bringing is based on your last name. My group got main dishes, so I decided I am bringing ham and cheese sliders. So I got the fixings for that.

I got home and prepped those up, I will toss them in the oven just before I head up to the event.

I spent the rest of the day watching college football. Watched the Irish win against USC, then watched the UT vs Texas A&M game until the Griz playoff game against Tennesse State came on.

Both the ND and Griz games had some crazy plays. ND had two pick six interceptions. One was 99 yards and the other was 100 yards and they were like 3 minutes apart. The Griz had two punt returns for touchdowns. The good news is they both won.

Well I better get a move on and do something productive (laundry). So enough therapy for today.
