Les Miserables

Wow! Last night the performance of Les Miserables at Bishop Gorman highschool was outstanding! Lilly did a phenomenal job as little Cossete. If someone plopped you in the theatre and not told you anything you would think you were seeing a Broadway cast performance and not a high school production. These kids were that good.

The theatre itself is beautiful and fully decked out with great sound equipment and lighting. The high school orchestra did a phenomenal job on the music. Again you would never guess it was high school kids playing the music. The props were broadway quality. It was just a very nice performance. Kudos to the whole cast and crew.

All of us there supporting Lilly were blown away with her performance. This was her first singing role and she did phenomenal. We were all extremely proud of her. I do know that her great grandmother Rose and Aunt Jennifer were beaming in heaven last night. They would have thoroughly enjoyed seeing her perform.

They had the Victor Hugo quote "To love another person is to see the face of God" projected on a sign above the stage at the beginning of the play and to be honest I don't ever remember seeing or hearing that quote before. It choked me up and I got a little teary when I read it and contemplated that.

Anyway it was a great show and I am so happy that Ryan and Caron invited me to come over for it and indebted to Jim and Elaine for putting me up for the night once again.

We had a tasty dinner at Caron and Ryan's before the show and it was a very nice evening. It was also nice seeing Caron's parents and brother Billy.

On the ride home this morning, I was remembering all the musicals and plays that Jennifer and I went to over the years. When we lived in Houston we did the Theatre Under The Stars Broadway series for a couple of years. We had some fun evenings with the Spoelkers and Malody's at those shows. We saw a wide variety of Broadway musicals such as The King and I, Urine town, Spamalot etc. The only thing was that we would get home late and had to get up early for work so it was a little brutal the day after these shows. Last year we had went and saw Hamilton at the Smith Center in Vegas.

I also remembered Summer Mummers from when we lived in Midland, TX. Now this was NOT Broadway quality performances. That was a vaudeville type production where you went and you would buy paper grocery sized bags of greasy pop corn and throw it at the performers and each other. Each year the program was based on local politics and events occurring in the Midland/West Texas area. The highlight was the performance of the song "Rawhide". The performer would come out dressed in this cowboy get up with furry chaps and a stick horse and a whip. It was a hoot and you would get home and find pop corn in places it should not be. Your ears, the crack of your ass, etc.

One of the guys from work used to coordinate the popcorn sales and Jennifer and I volunteered I think twice to help bag and sell popcorn. You would get home just covered in grease and smelling like popcorn. For years it pissed off Jennifer that when she "Googled" her name the only thing that would come up was that she was a volunteer that sold popcorn at Summer Mummers.

I got home around noon today and then went and played Bocce and Pickleball. We had a very large group for Bocce this evening. I will have to defer to Margot, but it was the biggest group I have participated in. We had all seven courts going with extra players on several of the courts.

After my group finished playing Bocce I went and played a few games of Pickleball and then headed home. I will be honest I am beat tonight and am going to,hit the hay early.

Well enough for today.
