I Have Been Staying Busy

This week I have been staying busy, which definitely helps the days go by fast and helps my overall state of mind, but it also has kept me from writing. I started on a post last night, but was so tired that I could not gather my thoughts to write anything coherent. So said screw it and went to bed. I actually slept 7.5 hours which is much better than the 4.5-5 hours I have been getting.

I have been having some moments where I (for the lack of a better description) have been in a state of denial about Jennifer not being here anymore. Even though it has been over a year, I guess I just don’t want to believe it, even though I know it is so very much true. It is really hard to describe these moments in words. But what I can tell you, is that I miss her terribly, and just so wish she could be here to do some of things I have been doing this week. She would have enjoyed most of them. I wish I could say it is getting easier, but the reality is that it really is not. As I have said before, it is something I am never going to get over, but I will get through it.

I have played golf, played bocce, played corn hole, went bowling, played pickleball, played Uber driver, worked on setting up volleyball nets over pits of mud, visited with folks. Have also been sneaking in some housework during breaks in all of this playing.

Yesterday I started with corn hole practice at 6:30 am, then bocce at 8:00 a.m., did some laundry and cleaning and then lunch with friends at 11:45, bowling at 1:00 pm, then working on MUDD volleyball at 4:00 pm and then closed out the day with Pickleball at 7:00 pm. Needless to say I slept well last night.

Tuesday I played golf at Coyote Springs golf course. It is a beautiful course about 45 minutes away from Mesquite. It is a Jack Nicklaus designed course, so it is a punishing course with lightning fast greens. The first 14 holes were pretty brutal, but I was improving over the last four holes and carded a couple of pars. Even though I was playing horribly, it was nice to be swinging the clubs. Currently all of the Mesquite courses are closed for overseeding so not any local places to play. Coyote Springs does not overseed , so they stay open during the month of September.

Wednesday, I drove over to Vegas to pick up Andy and Dorothy from their Florida trip. Thankfully traffic was light and the trip was uneventful. However it is always interesting to see all the horrible drivers out there. I got to the airport a little early and so I was parked in cell phone lot waiting for their flight. There were some people pulling into that lot like it was the Indy 500 (way too fast and cutting corners way to tight). Most of these folks had pretty fancy cars (Porsche, Mercedes, Audi’s, Range Rovers, etc). However those cars are not going to stay in very good shape the way these folks were driving them. It was interesting that the majority of the bad drivers vehicles had California plates on them.

The weather in Mesquite has been very nice this week with high temps in the lower 90’s and morning temps in the high 50’s. So much better than the triple digit temps we have been having.

Observing the super moon this past week has also been amazing. The partial lunar eclipse was interesting. The moon looked like a cookie that someone had taken a small bite out of. The photo below is on the street going into my neighborhood. This was the night before the eclipse.

Well a busy weekend ahead with the Rotary MUDD Volleyball. Going up to the pits this afternoon to make the final touch ups and then will be there at 6:00 am tomorrow morning until it is finished.

Well better get a move on and doing something productive.
