Since my last post, I have been having some much needed fun! So have been delinquent in posting. I have played Bocce, Pickleball, Corn Hole, Bowling, Golf, played cards, gone to the pool and even consumed a few adult beverages.
However, there has been some sadness as well. On Labor Day I went to Pickleball and ran the morning round robin event. We only had four players. Two of the players were a couple, Joyce and Charlie. In my two years here, I have played with Charlie and Joyce quite a bit. They were always fun to play with and we always had close games and some good laughs, especially in the evenings. On Monday we played about six games and then it was getting pretty warm so we called it a day.
Charlie and Joyce went up to the Pioneer Center and lounged and got in the pool and then went home for dinner. Charlie then told Joyce he was not feeling well and unfortunately he passed away from a heart attack shortly after that.
Of course I feel terrible for Joyce, but they had a interesting life together and had just recently completed a transcontinental cruise to Australia and the South Pacific.
Charlie and Joyce are members of the LDS church and were very active in their church activities. They had done a mission a few years ago in the United Kingdom working on a dairy there. I never saw Charlie where he did not have a smile on his face. He was just one of those always upbeat people. Joyce is having a service here and then will have a service in Orem, UT later next week.
I also got some bad news this morning, my next door neighbor Laren has Stage 3 Pancreatic Cancer. He has had some surgery and chemotherapy and he has a positive attitude about it all, but pancreatic cancer is one of the worse ones, so please keep him and his wife Mary in your prayers.
It just shows you can not take anything for granted and best enjoy the time you have. Well I have certainly been doing that. My skills in all of this have been pretty rusty but they are coming around. The Golf has been pretty brutal, because of the heat, but on Tuesday I was the only in the group with a birdie, but I also had several triple bogey’s so the overall score was not pretty. I am just happy that I have gotten a couple of rounds in as the local courses are all closing for the month for overseeding.
On Wednesday I took Dorothy and Andy to the Las Vegas airport so they could fly out to Florida for a trip to see family and friends. Then I had Rotary meeting Wednesday evening. I got a really cool handmade wooden clock for being on the board (The other board members had gotten theirs back in July).

We also had some tasty cookies with the Rotary logo’s on them. Our September 21st Mud Volleyball tournament is quickly approaching so it is getting to be “All hands on deck” time so will be getting more involved with that in the coming days.
Of course I have been missing Jennifer terribly during all of this, but it sure nice to be able to see her picture on my wall and talking to her (as crazy as that is) after all these events and in the mornings and before I go to bed.
Well enough for today.
