May the luck of the Irish be with you!
Yesterday was a very nice St Uhros day. I was so happy that the Cancer Walk went off. Early yesterday morning the weather was crappy and I was actually pissed, because I thought it was going to put all the hard work the organizers put into the walk at jeopardy.
But all the cancer angels (Jennifer included) must have said uh, uh this is going to happen. About a hour before we were scheduled to start the set up, the weather started to improve and by the time registration started the weather turned out perfect for the walk. It was not too hot and not too cold and there was no wind.
The organizers raised $4000 dollars from the walk. I was so happy that Elaine and Jim came up and participated in the walk. It really meant a lot to me. Next year we are going to get some T-shirts made up probably with Jennifer's picture on them.
Both Elaine and I won raffle prizes. Elaine won a wine basket and I won a men's haircut. So pretty nice bounty.
For those not familiar St Uhros Day was a holiday created by Minnesota Finn's back in the 40's (I think). St Uhros is a fictional saint that drove the grasshoppers out of Finland. The Finns put it on March 16, so they could drink before the Irish. With it being on a Saturday this year, I am sure Butte was probably pretty busy and the Helsinki was rocking.
Jim's and Elaine treated me to lunch after the walk and we had a nice visit over lunch. Then we came home, visited some more and we cooked up a pot of Potato Leek Soup, then cooked some corn beef, cabbage, carrots and potatoes. The first batch of potatoes was a little undercooked, but the second batch was better. Dorothy/Andy and Julie/Randy came over. Dorothy bought a delicious salad and Julie brought some wonderful cookies. We also had some key lime pie to finish off the evening.
Today would have been Jennifer's dads 101st Birthday. St Patty's day was not Mick's favorite holiday, he did not drink and thought there was too much shenanigans and BS going on around Butte. Anyway, I hope he is having a good Birthday in heaven today.
Last year, Jennifer and were already planning to go to Butte for this years St Patty's day. Well that is just one of many trips we were discussing that sadly did not occur. That's the sucky part of life, but it is what it is and we must go on. I did feel her presence yesterday and last night as we were visiting and laughing around the table, I could hear her in my head laughing and carrying on with us. She would have really enjoyed yesterday and would have been happy with Elaine and Jim being here.
Well I better get to moving and getting ready for my next batch of visitors. the Galbavy's are coming next and I am looking very forward to their visit. We got lots of activities planned.
