Today I had to do some more gift wrapping for my Dad and it got me reflecting on the past Christmas gifts that Jennifer and I gave each other. Jennifer was always a good gift giver, she always got me such neat stuff.
Me on the other hand, not so much. I was pretty predictable, it was usually jewelry. Thank God she liked jewelry. That was fairly easy for me. The tougher part was concealing the purchase(s) from her. She handled the bills and would see the charges. Some years I was better at concealing it than others, usually because it was a very close to Christmas purchase and she would not see the charges until after Christmas. Today with all the bells and whistles we have on the cards I could not get away with that. She would know as soon as the charge went thru.
In the latter couple of years we just decided (since we were both hard to buy for) to buy our own gifts and then wrap them and tell each other thank you for the wonderful gift. She still would end up buying mine because she was the Amazon account holder.
We would chuckle about it and she would get that Angelic look on her face, when she thanked me for her gift after she opened it and I would tell her how I agonized over picking it out ( which she would laugh at). Like I said before she always got my weird sense of humor.
Our tradition was to open our gifts from each other on Christmas Eve. Then we would open gifts from others on Christmas morning. I will greatly miss that forever but I assure it will be playing back in my head on Sunday night and every Christmas Eve going forward.
Anyway funny how memories pop into your head with certain activities. Well enough for today. Got to work on getting supper prepared so we can be done and ready to listen to tonights cross town rivalry basketball game on the radio. Go Maroons!
I love this post! I pretty much order what I want for Christmas, too. Duke tells me what to get him, too. In my card making stuff I have a stamp that says, “I hope you like the gift you told me to get for you.” Your post made me think of that. Have as good a Christmas as you can. Jennifer would want that for you. Hope to see you while you are still here.
