This morning I woke up earlier than I intended. I was going to try and sleep in. However we had a very short power outage and that woke me up. The power was probably only out a minute or so. However I got nervous that if it went out again, I would need to possibly build a fire in the wood stove in the basement to keep the house warmed up. It was -21 this morning. So figured I just would get up and be ready to spring into action if I needed to. Fortunately it has not gone out again.
So I was scrolling through the internet and I came across a article about a elderly gentleman that had a 1975 Ford Pinto that he bought new and has driven since then and how it was in very good condition. This article made me think of Jennifer and chuckle.
Her first car was a Ford Pinto hatchback and to be honest it was one of her favorite vehicles. I don't remember what year hers was was but it was probably in the late 70's. The only thing was that her Pinto had no reverse. So she would have to find a parking spot that she could drive out of or she would have to open the door and stick one foot out the door and push it out of the spot. She did get pretty good at doing that, but she got real good at finding spots that did not require her to back up.
Jennifer waited until later in life to begin driving. It was actually our between our Junior and Senior year in high school before she finally went and got her drivers license. It is not that she did not have the skill or ability. She just didn't feel the need to get it. Most of her friends had cars and their license's and her sister Janice was driving and she could ride the city bus in a pinch. So she figured there was not a need to rush into getting her drivers license. Her Dad had purchased the car for her and it sat for quite a while before she finally decided to start driving.
Anyway she finally pulled the trigger and got her license. Now the thing with the cars her Dad would find for the kids they would usually have some kind of minor issue. In Jennifer's case it was no reverse. The transmission just needed to be fixed. I think he did that to try and keep them from venturing to far from home.
Well of course the Ford Pinto was made infamous as being a ticking time bomb because of the placement of the fuel tank. If they got rear ended they could become a fire ball. Anyway I think her Dad got a little concerned about that. So he rebuilt the transmission and sold it on her (something he was infamous for). He bought her a Ford Fairmont ( Myrna) to replace it. She was bummed that her Dad got rid of the Pinto but she got over it. Besides Myrna had reverse. It was just a three tone blue and had mismatched hub caps. They matched on each side but they were two different sets. Her Dad always pointed out that no one could see all four tires and hub caps at the same time anyway. So it was no big deal as long as the two wheels on the same side matched.
Anyway, that article this morning had me chuckling, so while I did not get to sleep in as I was hoping it gave me a funny memory to start the day.
Well enough for today. I need to go put my Prime Rib enchilada's in the oven. It's a recipe I cobbled together from several recipes. So hopefully it will taste OK. I even made the enchilada sauce from scratch.
