Cold Hands Warm Heart

Jennifer used to like to use the saying Cold Hands/Warm heart a lot. Her hands often were cold and she would jolt me many a time putting those cold hands on my nice warm belly. She would always tell me cold hands were the sign of a warm heart.

Last night I broke out one of her quillows to put on the bed as it was a little chilly in the house last night. For those not familiar with a quillow it is a quilt like blanket that has a pocket on it so it can be folded up into a pillow.

In addition to aprons this was one of Jennifer’s favorite sewing projects and she made numerous ones for the nieces and nephews, my folks and us. Her sister Janice gave us our first one and then Jennifer would start making them. She would use fabrics with designs on them (super hero’s, team logos, tractors, etc). They are pretty handy and just the right weight to keep you warm but not hot. They are kind of like the windbreaker jacket of the blanket world.

Well last night I put one on the bed, just to have a little extra warmth. As I was doing that it triggered a memory that got me both laughing and crying because it was one of those nights that would have been another favorite saying of hers cold ass /warm heart.

It was one of those nights, she would have gotten in bed and snuggled up to me and put her cold ass against me. There was many a night where I practically jumped out of bed because of her cold behind. She would always giggle about it. Boy would I give anything to be jolted by either one of her cold body parts and to hear that giggle. Right now all I am hearing is “God Damn It Joe” don’t be telling people about my cold ass. So that is making me smile as well.

Yesterday I did some cleaning and reorganizing of my pantry. It had gotten pretty out of hand. Well as I was doing that, I uncovered many things I did not know we had and/or things that I know I will never use. Jennifer and my palette’s were very different on a whole host of fronts. Especially on hot drinks. I am just not a real big fan of hot tea and/or drinks. She liked them and I found some teas that I know I will never drink. Thankfully Dorothy is going to take some of them off my hands. I would hate to just throw them away. I am just not going to be making up a bunch of Sweet Harvest Pumpkin tea.

As I was cleaning I realized (as I came across the ingredients) that there was something I had not made in quite a long time. Jennifer and I used to make these homemade breakfast bars. I had found this recipe when we lived in San Antonio and I used to make a batch of them pretty much every week. I would pack one in my golf bag for a mid round snack. I played a lot of golf in San Antonio so I made a lot of these. I had my version and she had her version. We had different things we like to put in them. We would usually make them up and then freeze them to have on hand.

They have oatmeal, apple sauce, cinnamon, dried fruit and nuts in them. They are pretty tasty. I like to also put in shredded coconut and dried blueberries. Jennifer liked to put dried cranberries in hers. I would use those occasionally as well. I used traditional old fashion oats in mine. Jennifer liked to use the quick cooking oatmeal in hers. Hers were a little denser than mine because of that.

I was going to make some yesterday, but ran out of ambition. So when I woke up this morning I decided to make a batch. I had lots of good memories of us making these together in San Antonio. They are out of the oven and are cooling, so I will have one later this morning before heading to Bocce.

Well the day we have all been waiting for is finally here. At least the damn commercials will stop for a little while until the next election cycle gets in full swing. I hope and pray that the Cheetolini doesn’t get in, but am very fearful that he will.

I have been extremely disappointed in the number of friends and family that have drank his toxic Kool-Aid. However, that is their right, but the lack,of morals and integrity in the man (in my opinion) alone should keep him out of our government, let alone all the other shit he has done.

I am not in any way shape or form saying that Harris/Walz are the ideal candidates, but they are a hell of lot better that the Cheetolini and his minions. Our democracy will survive if they are elected, our democracy likely will not if the orange messiah gets in.

If he gets in, I better get prepared to be measured for my orange jumpsuit and tattoo’s because I will probably get shipped off to the re-education/brain washing camps. I wish I was being sarcastic but I am not. I sadly could see that being a real possibility with the orange ass wipe.

I just pray that the violence is kept to a minimum regardless of the outcome. I fear it will not be and I fear that there will lots of blood in the streets before it is all said and done.

Well enough for today.

I’ll be happy to see the ads go away but the results could go either way. I share your same views. This is going to be an aggravating day. I am also shocked how many women & teachers think he is king. The rural towns up here in Northern NV are true Trumpers. I have to look out my kitchen window every day and see that Trump flag flying in the wind. 🤯

I’m really nervous about the Tester race. Go Blue!!💙💙
