Case’s Award

As I mentioned this morning we went to East Helena for a award that Case got at school today. He was the December student of the month for his home room class. He is in the fourth grade. Each month they have a characteristic that is recognized. For the month of December it was "Respect".

It was a very nice presentation. Each of the students had a nice write up from their home room teacher on why they were being recognized and then we learned what their favorite book, class and food was. Case surprised his parents with his favorite book (Harry Potter) which we had a laugh about. PE was his favorite class and sphagetti was his favorite food.

They saved the best for last (but maybe I am biased) as he was the last student in the group to be recognized.

After the presentation we went to a early dinner with Case and Chad. Unfortunately, Cindy and Heath could not join us. Cindy had to go back to school for a training class and Heath had a Robotics club meeting. We all were very proud of Case.

Attending this event made me realize I never could have been a elementary school teacher. It is like herding cats, but the teachers overall do a great job getting these high energy kids into the gym, getting them organized and seated. Before the event started it sounded like a flock of birds with all the chatter going on. However the principal raised his hand to start the presentation and the kids immediately went silent. I was impressed.

We got home just in time to start watching the FBS National Championship. Sadly it looks like Coach Kahki pants is going to get a National Championship.

Yep being an elementary teacher for 30 years was definitely like herding wild animals. It takes a lot to train & retrain them to be good citizens. Every day was an adventure. I loved the job when I was doing it but love being retired now & have no desire to go back.
