Bothered

The past several days I have been bothered by several things that I have to be frank have just pissed me off.

Several of these things are centered on animals. There is a group of people that is wanting to bring animals to the US from Afghanistan. Most of these are dogs, (some are ex US military service dogs that were left behind) but they had a laundry list of other animals as well. They are spending millions of dollars to do this, with a large part of that money being spent on paperwork/permits for various countries that the animals would have to be transported thru. Then they need to find homes for them when they get here. There are already tons of animals needing homes in this country.

Then there was a piece about a new airline that caters to dogs called “Bark Air”. They have small luxury jets. The owners and their dogs are pampered with all kinds of luxury items during their flight. The cost for a one way ticket from NY to LA is $6,000 and a one way ticket from NY to London is $8,000.

Like I mentioned to someone yesterday, if there is reincarnation I hope I get to come back as one of these pooches. However with my luck I would come back to South Dakota as one of Kristi Noem’s flunkies.

To me these are just signs of people with more money than sense. To me there are so many other things that all that money could be spent on that would better our world.

Don’t get me wrong, I like animals. However in my opinion, there is a line somewhere on what animals should be entitled to.

Jennifer and I never had any real pets. We had a Siamese fighting fish for a short while, but that was it. We talked about getting one a couple of times, but neither of us really wanted a pet for a host of reasons. While we were working we did not have pets because we knew we could not give them adequate love and attention and that they would be cooped up for long periods of time and that would not be fair to the poor animal.

Also pets are expensive, anymore they damn near cost as much as kids. Plus they tie you down and or limit your mobility to do things. So I guess long and short we were selfish. Of course we are part of the ”Me” generation.

As I said I have no problem with those that love animals. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and how they view this, but when animals start getting better treatment than a large part of the human population I just think priorities are getting out of line.

When we have millions of people dying from starvation and dying from hideous diseases but we are spending lots of money to fly animals from point A to point B and treat them better than humans it bothers me and makes me very concerned about the future of the world.

Of course there are a while host of other issues that bother me even more, but for some reason this animal thing has really stuck in my craw.

I am very concerned for the future of our country and the short sightedness and short attention span of people today. I am very concerned history is getting ready to repeat itself. We are on a crash course to essentially repeat 1930 Nazi Germany and I am very concerned that this time the US will be on the wrong side.

Anyway, enough of my ranting, but it is something that has been bothering me and I hope by ranting I can get over it and move on.
