Blackbeards Ghost

Yesterday I went and putted in the weekly putting club tournament. We tied the club record for the number of participants at 41 players. Our team did not fare all that well. We had no hole in ones. A couple of close calls but no cigar. So another week of donating a dollar.

After that I went down to the Virgin River Casino to watch the Mesquite Senior Games bowling competition. Andy, Dorothy and Margot participated. The ladies had a good showing and got a gold and a silver medal in their divisions. Andy and his partner got a bronze medal in one of their divisions. So medals all around. The ladies entered at the last minute, thinking they would not do all that well. HA!

I did not get to stick around for the medal presentations, because I wanted to get to the Saturday Round Robin Pickleball event. It was finally a day with minimal wind and was a fun and beautiful afternoon. So did not want to miss not taking advantage of that.

Then I came home and called my folks. Their landline has been out of service for a couple of weeks so I have not been able to talk to them regularly. Well now their phone is partially fixed, which my Dad is thankful for. Talking to folks on the phone is one of the few things that helps him occupy his time and how he keeps up what is going on in the world. I say partially fixed, because they can call out, but folks can't call in. It just rings and rings. So they will have to call the phone company again on Monday to see about getting it fixed totally.

Cindy and the boys were over when I called. So I know they were happy about that.

I did get the grout cleaned in the master bathroom so I am finished with grout for the time being.

Tonight I was looking for something funny to watch on TV. I have Disney+ so I was looking and saw that Blackbeards ghost was available. This was one of Jennifer's favorite Disney movies. She loved many of the old Disney movies, especially the Kurt Russell ones. However Blackbeards Ghost held a special place in her heart.

The opening scene was one of her favorites and would get her laughing every time. It is where the Dean Jones character (new track coach for Godaulphin University) pulls into the Godaulphin gas station and there is the scrawny little attendant who can barely pick up a case of empty pop bottles and can't open the hood of Dean Jones's car to check the oil.

Dean Jones finds out the attendant is a member of his track team. He asks if he is a sprinter and he says no he is as slow as molasses in January. So he asks him what his specialty is. He says he is the shot putter. Dean Jones says well that that person is usually the strongest member of the team. The kid puffs out his chest and says Yes Sir coach. That would get Jennifer cracking up every time.

I bet we have watched this movie a dozen times if we have watched it once. Last night as I watched it and I could hear her laughing about that any many other scenes in the movie. The finger gun scene was another of her favorites. I could really feel her there watching with me. It made me both happy and sad. I figured we would watch it many more times together and we will just not in the fashion I would have hoped for.

If you have never watched the movie it is worth a watch. It was made in 1968 so it almost as old as I am and is still as funny today as it probably was then. Peter Uztinov did a great job as the Blackbeard character. Suzanne Pleshette also did a good job in her role

Well I better get to doing something productive. I have a busy couple of weeks coming up. Tomorrow I have to go to a meeting for a March 16 Cancer Walk. I am volunteering at the event. Several ladies I know from both Pickleball and Rotary are some of the main organizers of the event. Elaine and Jim are also coming over to walk in it and spend the night. So that will be good. Of course Sunday is St Patrick's Day. Which for anyone from Butte is a big holiday, it was also my Father-in-Law Mick's Birthday. My Dads birthday is also this week. Then the following week Cindy, Chad and the boys are coming for a visit over their spring break. We are going to go watch the Battle Bots in Las Vegas one day. Heath is very active in robotics and loves the show. So that out to be fun. We will also be checking out other things in the area.
